Month 3: El Salvador;

This month was full of…

     All the papusas. Papusas for lunch. Papusas for dinner. We’re LOCO for papusas… ehhh not so loco for elote loco. Wendy’s, and Starbucks, and Walmart oh my!!! Are we back in the States?? Ho ho ho, I’m your secret Santa! What do you mean my name didn’t get drawn… “Eh it’s complicated. For me is okay, for you… I don’t know.” Of course we’ll be English teachers! Of course we’ll preach! “Meagan will you sing Oceans in front of the congregation in Spanish?“… Of course! You want us to teach the kids a dance… Church Clap it is! Riding in the back of the pickup truck for hours on end. Wait… ARE WE ON THE INTERSTATE?!?!! “ALLELUJAH!!!”Hiked a volcano. An active volcano. An active volcano that last erupted in 2005… cool! *BOOM BOOM BOOM* me having to assure my parents whom I’m FaceTiming that it’s only fireworks. “MERRY CHRISTMAS!” er… “FELIZ NAVIDAD!!” Let’s celebrate by shooting off fireworks. And a “HAPPY NEW YEAR!” More fireworks… I’m sorry did you just say these one’s are ILLEGAL?!! Thank you, next! “Sammy do you know what the word ‘sassy’ means?” Piñata parities for dayssss!!! Cue Robin Sparkles-“Let’s go to the mall, today!!” Hola Abeula! Abeulo… truly a man of many words. Turn in your Bible’s to James. “What?!” *20 minutes later* “Ohhhh Santiago!!” Gringas… ellas… yep they’re talking about us again. Practiced patience. Found peace in the midst of sadness, homesickness, and the mundane. Said goodbye to 2018; expectantly running towards God’s promises of 2019. Just like a house is not a home, a hogar is not a casa and I truly have found a hogar here in El Salvador. I leave behind a piece of my heart and pray that I will be back someday. Until then I will cling tightly to the beautiful memories that I made with even more beautiful people while I lived here.

 *IMPORTANT INFORMATION*

This evening I will be making my blog private. This means that you will no longer be able to access my blog UNLESS you have the password. My blog must be password protected for our time in Vietnam because it is a closed country in which it is technically illegal to be a missionary. The password for my blog, as well as the passwords for my squadmates blogs, will be Psquad2019. This will go into effect this evening.

 *PRAYER REQUESTS*

-My squad and I will begin our travel day to Vietnam tomorrow!! I fly from Vietnam to Orlando, to New York, to Seoul, South Korea, to VIETNAM! Once we arrive to Vietnam Monday evening my team and I will begin our week long travel via bus to one of the Northern most provinces of Vietnam. We are expected to arrive in Thai Nguyen on Thursday of this upcoming week. Please pray for safety and peace as we travel, that everything will go smoothly and we will all remain healthy and happy through the constant travel and time changes.

-This month my team and I have the opportunity to do something called ATL month… and no that doesn’t stand for Atlanta in this case. It stands for “Ask the Lord.” This means that we don’t have assigned ministry for the month or an assigned host in Vietnam. Instead we will remain in constant prayer, literally asking the Lord each and everyday what He would have us do! Pray for clarity and boldness as we prayerfully tune into what He wants us to do. Pray for safety and that we will make good ministry contacts in this area of Vietnam.

Thank you all for your continued love, support, and prayers! I will do my best to update you all once we arrive in Vietnam! Until then…

-Meagan

  5. This month definitely sounded like an adventure!
    Isn’t it funny that ‘James’ in Spanish is ‘Santiago’?!?
    I almost went to El Salvador on a mission trip (but my brother went, though) and, somehow, I still feel connected to that country. ??
    Safe travels!
