Hello friends and welcome to Day 11 of my 30 day, month-long blogging challenge! I’m excited you’ve tuned in for today’s post and encourage you, if you’ve yet to do so, to check out some of my previous blogs from this month! Today’s blog was accompanied by a trip to the ER last night on behalf of my younger sister, so if you could please keep her in your thoughts and prayers, that would mean the world to my family and I. It just reminded me though, God can use absolutely any circumstance to teach us a lesson and remind us of His truths…
Last night my younger sister dislocated her knee. As soon as it happened she began to crumple to the floor, and gasp from the sheer and excruciating pain that she was in. Heartbroken, there wasn’t much I could do but watch and pray as we waited for paramedics to arrive so that she could be taken to the hospital. Even after being given pain medicine in both the ambulance and at the hospital she was still in severe and antagonizing pain. It wasn’t until they popped her knee back into place that she was able to feel any relief and the pain began to subside.
You see her knee had fully popped out of place, and the only thing that could fix the situation was to put it back where it rightly belonged. To put it back in the place within her body where it could serve its purpose, bring her body back into full alignment, and thus take the pain away.
As I sat in the waiting room before they allowed us to go back to be with my sister, I thought about the fact that this is what it feels like when we try to function outside of the body of Christ. God created each and every one of us to serve a specific purpose within this “body.” I was given gifts and qualities that are very different from those that He may have gifted to you, and just as a hand was designed to be a hand and a foot to be a foot, both parts are different but equally as vital. You bring something to the table that no one else does, and God designed you to be that way so that you could help the body to thrive!
The body of Christ, or the church, is made up of many parts, or members. I’ve come to learn that we were not called nor created to be every part within this body. God may have called me to be a “hand,” and I’m done trying to become something I’m not by also being a “foot,” an “ankle,” or the “head.” The hand was made with a specific purpose and as soon as you make the hand try to go somewhere it’s not meant to go, or try to get it to serve in a place in which it wasn’t created to serve there will be a disconnect, friction, and pain. The bottom line is, it WON’T work. When you place a hand where a foot is meant to serve the body, it will NOT work.
In the same way, if you remove said part or member altogether, there will be hurt, heartache, and pain until the part is returned to its rightful home. So come back home and find YOUR rightful place within the body. God already has a place waiting for you and you’re the ONLY one who can fill that place. You may not feel equipped; remember, God doesn’t call the equipped but rather He equips those He calls, and He has called everyone! Everyone has a calling, everyone has a purpose, and everyone has giftings and qualities that set them apart and make them uniquely vital within the body of Christ. I encourage you to find a local body of believers, or church, that helps you to realize where you were created to not only serve within the body but thrive!
