If you’ve stuck with me this long through my month of blogging than you know the drill, otherwise… WELCOME to my blog and to day 24 of 30 days of blogs! You read that correctly this is the 24th blog I’ve posted this month, as it is the 24th day of the month. Today also marks the 10th day out of my 11 day country series introducing the 11 countries that my squad and I will have the opportunity to serve within while on The Race. For the month of July we will be in this country, and honestly I’m incredibly excited for this country and this continent as a whole… the time has come to talk about… UGANDA!!

GEOGRAPHY & POPULATION:

Uganda, officially the Republic of Uganda, is a country in East-Central Africa. The population of Uganda is 41.49 Million people.

LANGUAGE:

English was the only official language of Uganda until the constitution was amended in 2005. Swahili, a widely used language throughout the African Great Lakes region, was approved as the country’s second official national language in 2005.

RELIGION:

Christian– 85%, Roman Catholicism– 39.3%, Anglican Church of Uganda– 32%, Islam– 14%, “Other Religions“- 1.4%, No Religious Affiliation– 0.2%

LIFE EXPECTANCY:

Male- 60.2, Female- 64.8, Total Life Expectancy- 62.5

FOOD:

Ugandan cuisine consists of traditional and modern cooking styles, practices, foods and dishes. It consists of English, Arab, and Asian influences. Some staples of Ugandan cuisine include luwombo, posho, muchomo, katogo, matooke, and mandazi.

FUN FACTS:

*Uganda was dubbed “The Pearl of Africa” by Winston Churchill because of its magnificent beauty.

*An astonishing fact is that nearly 50% of the population of Uganda is under the age of 14. With such a low age, Uganda is the world’s youngest country. The average age of a native Ugandan is just 50 to 60 years old.

*If you are presented with a meal of pan-fried grasshoppers in Uganda, consider yourself a special guest because it is one of the favorite treats of the country.

*By law, vehicles are supposed to drive on the left side of the road in Uganda. One would, however advise you to be careful as foreign motorists who have traveled on Ugandan roads advise that Ugandans do not heed this rule.

PRAYER POINTS:

*PRAY for provision for those lacking food and more educational opportunities.

*PRAY for a deep hunger for God and His Word in the Ugandan church.

*PRAY for a Biblical perspective on marriage and sexuality.

*PRAY that the government might exercise its authority with even-handed honesty and a true concern for its own people.
