This month my team and I are serving in a small village about an hour tuk tuk ride outside the city of Siem Reap. One of our first days in the village we had the opportunity to walk to the home of a local woman in the village so that we could pray over her and her children. Our translator and point of contact in the village, Sam, told us that the little girl had lice and that from scratching her head she had rubbed her scalp raw in a few places.
Something I’m learning on The Race is how to not only hear the voice of God, but to boldly act on those things that He places on my heart.
As Sam told us this information, without missing a beat God placed the desire on my heart to treat her for lice. “Can we wash her hair and help get rid of the lice?” I asked. It’s beautiful to see how God rewards our acts of obedience with fruit! Not only did we end up being able to wash our new young friend’s hair, but we also were able to wash the hair of any child in the village who wanted us to, and many of the women as well! Never in a million years would I have thought that I would spend my Valentine’s Day picking lice out for hours on end, but I can honestly say it’s hands down the BEST valentine’s Day I’ve ever had. And on a day that is dedicated to love, it reminded me more than ever that love is louder than words.
Love does, and it fights, and it is beautifully active. Some days love looks like paying for the food of the individual behind you in the drive through line at Chick-Fil-A. Some days love looks like praying over those people that God places on your mind and reaching out to them to let them know you’re thinking of them. And some days love looks like washing and pulling lice out of people’s hair with the most joyful and thankful heart because you know the Father has you right where you’re meant to be!
